Friends, this post is going to be a myths-buster of 5G. There are a lot of rumors going around about 5G in India even though it is yet to arrive in India. But there are many people or groups in India who are spreading fake facts about 5G.

I will bust 5 myths surrounding 5G. That means I am going to show you the truth about 5G and make you more knowledgeable.

So that you don’t get fooled in the future. You should read this post till the end and please try to get more and more knowledge about 5G like What is 5G. There are so many rumors about 5G so you have to get the right information about 5G.

    5G Myth #1

Many people are saying that if we move from 4G to 5G then we are increasing the power of radiation. That is, 5G radiation is harmful (according to those people) to our body, any animal, bird, etc. Relax, you don’t need to worry because 5G radiation is not dangerous. Keep in mind that these are all 2G, 3G, or 5G airwaves.

Paid or free internet data provided by Airtel or Jio, or voice call is due to the data traveling through radiation. These radiations are electromagnetic waves that transfer data from one point to another. I mean to say there is radiation everywhere. There is a lot of radiation around you too. Even the human body emits radiation. Radiation is just a type of energy.

    5G Myth #2

Another big myth is that 5G will replace 4G. But it is not 100% correct as 5G can be implemented in different ways like non-standalone and standalone way. Standalone way means we can convert 4G towers into 5G towers so that you can get 4G waves and 5G waves also. On the other hand, standalone means we have to implement a new 5G tower which will emit only 5G radiation.

3G and 4G emissions are not possible from the same tower but 4G and 5G is possible from the same tower so the non-standalone method is better as we can use both 5G and 4G together.

So, it is not true that 5G will replace 4G as you can use 4G and 5G which comes from the same tower. Even there is a chance that the 4G data you will use in the future will be that 4G Data will be faster than what you are using now, because of non-standalone 5G

    5G Myth #3

The third myth is that 5G is only for smartphones that can only be used to improve internet data transfer speeds. Yes, it will improve internet speed but 5G has a lot of applications. 5G will not only help the smartphone industry but will also help the manufacturing industry, various industries using the internet, IoT, etc. The reason behind this is the low latency of 5G.

First, understand what latency is. Latency is the time it takes for data to transfer between its source and its destination, measured in milliseconds. For example, if you use your phone to start your car (with the help of 4G) you will see some time delay which is in milliseconds (very less). Even if you use a wireless mouse or other wireless devices, you will notice that its latency is higher than that of a wired mouse.

But this time with the help of 5G the delay can be further reduced. If we take the previous example and replace 4G with 5G then if you try to start your car with your phone, the car will start immediately without any time. This is all because of the low latency of 5G.

5G is useful in every industry, be it augmented reality, IoT, construction industry, etc. So keep in mind that 5G is transformative technology.

    5G Myths #4

Many people assume that 5G will work with 4G phones. But the truth is that 5G cannot be used in 4G mobile phones. Your phone has a specific modem to support 5G. You have a 4G phone, which means that the hardware in your phone supports 4G, not 5G.

If you are near a non-standalone tower which can emit 5G radiation then you can improve your internet speed with 4G in your phone but you cannot expect 5G speed because you don’t have 5G hardware.

If you are going to buy a phone and are considering 5G, then buy a 5G phone only if you have that much budget because it will take a long time to fully implement 5G in India.

    5G Myths #5

You might be thinking that 5G is just a technology, you are right to some extent but there are many types of 5G networks.

There are three types of 5G according to the frequency.

    • Low-frequency cells 700 MHz
    • High-frequency cells 3.4-3.8 GHz
    • Millimeter-wave cells 26 GHz

Let me explain this to you in simple language. If you want to get detailed information about all these then please google it

    Low-frequency cells 700 MHz

5G that operates on the low band has high coverage areas that can be hundreds of square miles. Its frequency range is from 600 MHz to 700 MHz. Since it is a low-frequency cell, it will provide the speed or the rate of data transfer is around 30 Mbps to 200 Mbps. It is comparatively higher than 4G but still, it is not as per expectation. To summarize the above paragraph we can say that 5G which works on the low band covers more area but the data transfer speed is less as compared to other bands.

    High-frequency cells 2.4-3.8 GHz

Its frequency range is from 2.4 GHz to 3.8 GHz. The coverage area is less than that of low-frequency cells but greater than that of millimeter-wave cells. But if we talk about the speed, then the internet speed it can give ranges from 150 Mbps to 900 Mbps.

    Millimeter-wave cells 26 GHz

Its frequency range is from 24 GHz to 39 GHz. Its coverage area is the lowest among all 5G bands but the data speed is higher than other 5G bands. The radius covered by millimeter-wave is around 1 mile but it can provide data speeds from 1 Gbps to 3 Gbps.

Should You Buy a 5G Phone?

Well, the short answer to this question is both Yes and No. You can say “Please give me a direct answer, I am confused”. You are right, my answer will confuse you but you have to keep in mind that you cannot answer yes or no to all questions.

Especially in the case of mobile devices. Keep in mind that you should choose whatever item according to your choice and need. All I can do is guide you. I can only show you the facts, and in the end, you have to decide whether to buy a phone with 5G technology or not.

I’ll tell you my point of view. Now 5G phones are better for those who want to use the smartphone for a long time, like 3-4 years. If you want to use your smartphone for 4 years, then get a 5G phone. If you change your phone every 1-1.5 years then definitely you should not get a 5G phone because 5G technology will take time to come fully in India.

You should also keep in mind that 5G is one factor, not the first factor. Prioritize your needs first. You should not buy a 5G phone only with 5G in mind. Check your critical requirements first, and if your requirement and 5G fits in your budget, then go for it
