Over the years, semiconductor technology has advanced to greater heights. The result is what we see around us in the form of smart devices. LEDs or light-emitting devices have also been part of this revolution, since any LED is a semiconductor.
LED TYPES
We now have LEDs that provide better lighting with low power consumption. They also have a better shelf life. Certainly, these advancements have fallen short of influencing the shapes, sizes and even the format of the circuit in which an LED can be mounted. So that’s really exciting!

Miniature LED
These are the ones you see almost every day in your routine as indicators on cell phones, televisions, and a variety of digital devices. They are generally warehouse led lighting available in a standard, predefined size and shape. This is to ensure its compatibility with different circuit boards. Different companies manufacture these types of LEDs in ranges of 5V and 12V. They come in a ‘ready to assemble’ mode that can be mounted on circuit boards directly. Typically they don’t need support from any additional cooling system like a heat sink.
High power LED
These types of LEDs are the result of advances in semiconductor technology. As the name suggests, these types of LED light are known for their high performance. They are capable of producing light outputs with greater light intensity. High-power LEDs come in different shapes and sizes. A common example of low bay lighting in everyday use is the types of LED strips that are used in light walls and room interiors.
A note on LED strip types : LED strip types are a classic example of high power LEDs bundled together in a commercial product. In this product, the high-power LEDs are mounted on a super flexible circuit board. The LED strips are used for decorative purposes.
Instant on LED
Unlike most CFL lamps and many filament bulbs, LED lamps turn on as soon as the switch is pressed. There is no “heating” so you get light where you need it, when you need it.
LED specific application (AS-LED)
These are LEDs that are manufactured for a particular application. Some examples are digital billboards, public displays, two-color and three-color LEDs. There are many other examples.
