It’s true: Americans need vegetables a lot more than they seem to realize. It’s already a commonly known fact that they don’t eat very healthily. In fact, they have a deep love for fast food. It’s easy to see why: it’s cheap, conveniently and quickly prepared by someone else, and delicious to those whose palates are accustomed to the extremes of taste that it offers, such as being too salty or too sweet. The reality is, though, that this type of food is just not nourishing enough for the human body.
What Fast Food Is Missing
Health and wellness experts like Gale Tobin know that the body needs nutrients such as vitamins and minerals in order to stay healthy. Unfortunately for fast food lovers, it isn’t a good source of all of the dietary supplements that the body needs to not only survive but thrive.
Extensive research has shown that Americans don’t consume enough vegetables to provide their bodies with the vitamins and minerals it needs. The common excuse is that they just don’t like the way they taste. However, the truth is that there are so many vegetables to try out there. Everyone has different tastes, but if they allow themselves to try something other than the familiar broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce and cabbage, people who are averse to the taste of these healthy options are likely to find other alternatives that suit their tastes.
Making Healthy Food Tastier
Aside from alternatives, however, there is the option of choosing different methods of preparing healthy food in order to make it taste better. There are different ways to cook healthy foods, such as boiling, frying, and baking them. Different cooking options will create different taste experiences. Broccoli that is boiled, for example, will taste a lot different than broccoli that has been fried or baked instead.
Another important factor to consider is seasoning. If you choose not to season your healthy food at all, it might taste bland and unappetizing to a modern palate accustomed to extremely sweet and salty tastes. Therefore, you can choose to season your food with ingredients that can confer it with a much better taste. For vegetables, it’s common to use vinegar, onions, peppers, ranch and cheese to give them more flavor.
Healthy food doesn’t have to taste bland. There are many different kinds of vegetables you can try and many ways to cook and season them to taste better.
