    Among the many interesting cities in Poland that remember history, there is the historic Szydlowiec. Get to know the city and find out what is interesting here

    Szydlowiec, Poland

    1) With over 12,000 inhabitants, Szydlowiec is located in Poland, between the cities of Radom and Skarzysko-Kamienna.

    2) The village was founded in the 12th century and received city rights in 1427. Probably Szydlowiec was founded by settlers from another Polish town, Szydlow.

    3) At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Szydlowiec sandstone was popular as a building material. Currently, there are former quarries here – Quarries of Szydlowiec.

    4) From the former splendor of the town, from the times when the town was managed by the Szydlowiecki and Radziwill families, the town hall, the parish church and the castle have survived to this day.

    5) In the middle of the market square in Szydlowiec there is a late-Renaissance town hall, built in the 17th century. Then it was rebuilt several times. In front of the town hall building there is a pillory – a late Renaissance sandstone column.

    Sights and interesting places in Szydlowiec

    6) In the place where a wooden defensive stronghold once stood, in the years 1470-1480 Stanislaw Szydlowiecki built a castle on an artificial island. In the years 1515-1526 the castle was rebuilt and acquired the Renaissance style. Currently, the former castle houses the Cultural Center.

    7) The Gothic Church of Saint Sigismund was built in the 15th-16th century. It is one of the best preserved late Renaissance monuments in Poland. The church was built using white sandstone. Inside this Renaissance temple there is a tombstone of Mikolaj Szydlowiecki and a tombstone of Mikołaj Radziwiłł and his wife Maria. There are also organs from the 19th century in the church. Interesting fact: for some time there was a prison under the church tower.

    8) At Garbarska Street in Szydlowiec there is a Jewish synagogue built in 1730. It served its function until World War II.

    10) The Classicist House under the Oak was built at the beginning of the 19th century. It was a school, then a hotel, and later a warehouse.
