Ohio is a great place to visit. You’ll find plenty of things to do and see and delicious food. From Cleveland’s famous pierogi to Cincinnati’s famous Skyline chili, Ohio has much to offer regarding food. If you’re looking for some of the best cities in Ohio with famous foods, look no further than this article! If you’re planning a trip here, check out these unique foods that originated in Ohio:

    Buckeyes

Buckeyes are a traditional Ohio candy, and you must try one before leaving. They’re made from peanut butter, chocolate, and powdered sugar and are delicious.

Where did buckeye come from? Buckeyes were born in 1932 at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign when a cook accidentally dropped chocolate onto some caramel that was being used for ice cream. Realizing she had created something great (and realizing she would be fired if she didn’t figure out what to do with it), she decided to make a candy bar out of it!

How do I make them? If you want to make your buckeye treats at home, here’s what you’ll need:

    • 1 cup smooth peanut butter or crunchy peanut butter (for crunchier results) * 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (or milk chocolate chips if desired) * 2 tablespoons heavy cream or half & half

    Cincinnati Chili

Cincinnati chili is a regional dish of Cincinnati, Ohio. It’s a meat sauce with spices, beans, and spaghetti served over spaghetti, topped with cheese and onions.

It may sound strange to those unfamiliar, but this unique regional dish is worth trying if you’re in Ohio.

    Cole Slaw Dogs

This all-American food is a hot dog wrapped in cole slaw and served on a bun. No, this isn’t an April Fools’ Day joke—it’s real! The origins of the cole slaw dog are traced back to Cleveland, where it was first introduced at Progressive Field during baseball games. Now you can find them at various restaurants across the state.

    Polish Boy Sandwiches

    Polish Boy

If you’re looking for a unique lunch or dinner option, look no further than the Polish boy sandwich. This traditional Cincinnati dish is made with sliced kielbasa sausage and french fries on a hoagie roll. It also comes with coleslaw, mustard and onions—and it can be found at many diners throughout the region.

If you’re not sure what to order when ordering your own Polish boy, ask your server for help in choosing an appropriate kielbasa sausage: the classic version is made of smoked pork and beef; however, there are other types available that contain poultry or even veal instead of pork.

    Skyline Chili Spaghetti

Skyline Chili is a food company that was founded in Cincinnati, Ohio. The company’s signature dish is its chili, which is served over spaghetti and topped with cheese. Skyline Chili also makes a variety of other foods, including hot dogs, hamburgers, and sandwiches.

Skyline Chili has been featured on the Food Network show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” as well as several other television shows and publications. The chili has also been called “Cincinnati’s other local delicacy” by news outlets such as WCPO-TV 9 On Your Side.

Skyline chili spaghetti is a unique dish found nowhere else in the world. It’s also available in three-way form (with cheese), four-way form (with beans) and five-way form (with jalapenos).

If you’re not from Ohio, you might not have heard of Skyline Chili yet–but once you try it, we think you’ll be hooked!

Slyman’s Corned Beef Of Cleveland, Ohio

    Famous Ohio Foods

Slyman’s corned beef is a traditional Jewish deli in Cleveland, Ohio. It has been serving up delicious food for decades and is known for its vast sandwiches, including the Slyman’s Special (a triple-decker sandwich) and the Fat Boy (a massive sandwich that weighs over 3 pounds). The restaurant also offers a variety of salads, soups, and sides to accompany your meal.

Slyman’s serves up classic dishes from around the world like chicken parmigiana and lasagna as well as local favorites like pierogi. If you’re looking for something sweet after dinner, try one of their famous pies- made fresh daily!

Tony Packo’s Hotdogs in Toledo, Ohio

Tony Packo’s chili dog is a Toledo, Ohio, food icon. It’s a simple dish: a hot dog wrapped in a bun and topped with spicy chili sauce. The sauce is made from ground beef and kidney beans, seasoned with garlic, onion, and cumin.

The restaurant has been serving these delicious dogs since 1932, when Tony Packo opened his first location on Monroe Street in downtown Toledo. The original location is still open today, serving their famous chili dogs (and other tasty treats) to hungry customers from all over Ohio and beyond to get their hands on one of these delicious treats!

    Glass City Coffee Company

Glass City is a Toledo-based coffee company known for its small-batch beans and flavorful lattes. You can find their shops throughout the city, including one on North Summit Street in downtown Toledo. The decor is simple and clean, and the staff is friendly if you’re new to the area like me!

I recommend trying Glass City’s cold brew iced latte if you want something refreshing but not too sweet. It has just enough sweetness to cut through the bitterness of black coffee without being overpowering. If this sounds good to you—or even if it doesn’t—you should definitely check out Glass City when visiting Ohio!

    Famous Dave’s BBQ in Cincinnati

Dave’s BBQ is a Cincinnati institution. It’s been around a long time, and it’s still going strong. They’ve got some of the best barbecue in the state–and maybe even in the country.

Their ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender and smoky, with just enough spice to make your mouth water. Their pulled pork sandwich is tender and juicy, with just enough sauce to keep it from being dry but not so much that it feels like you’re eating a gloppy mess. And their cornbread? It’s sweet, salty, and buttery all at once- like nothing else!

Dave is highly recommended by locals, who say it’s worth driving for hours to taste Dave’s BBQ goodness.

    Ohio’s Famous Ice Cream

Ice cream is a staple that needs no introduction. Ice cream is fun, delicious and available everywhere in the summer. It’s no wonder Ohioans love it so much!

But what kind of ice cream do you like? Do you like more traditional flavors, such as vanilla or strawberry? Maybe something more out there, like mint chip or coffee ice cream? Or maybe something in between?

Where’s your favorite place to get ice cream from when you’re in Ohio? Is it one of our local favorites like Graeter’s or Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream? Or are there some hidden gems we should be checking out instead?

There are a lot of delicious foods that originated here in Ohio!
