15 tips for skin and hair care in 2022
We can all say with certainty that we are glad that 2022 is behind us, but after the stressful year that many of us had, you may feel like you need a vacation. Also, your skin and hair may reflect some of the extra stress you’ve had, and as the new year begins, you might look in the mirror and think, “I need a vacation.”
Your skin and hair can look tired and lifeless, and this is the perfect time to give them the vacation they need. The most important thing is to start with simple steps that can create lasting good habits.
But before I share my favorite tips for healthy skin and shiny hair in 2022, I’d like to share why you need to maintain a personal care routine.
Why maintain a personal care routine?
We’ve all been a little more stressed lately, and stress can really affect our health and well-being. Stress triggers inflammation in the body, which slows down the digestive system. This affects the bacteria in the gut, which can cause breakouts of acne, eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis. Stress also dries out the skin due to the rush of adrenaline and cortisol.
Maintaining a daily grooming routine can help you manage stress and its effect on your overall well-being. A personal care routine will help keep your skin and hair supple, hydrated, and healthy.
How to take good care of your skin
The skin is the largest organ in our body and it is important to keep it hydrated and nourished. Having a consistent skincare routine will not only help your skin look good, but it will also help you feel good.
1. Wash your hands before washing your face.
According to dermatologist Dr. Ava Shamban, bacteria, viruses, and allergens are transferred from the fingertips to the skin. So before you touch your face, be sure to wash your hands.
2. Don’t wash your face with hot water.
Hot water can irritate the skin and strip your skin of natural oils, essential for it to stay healthy. Use warm water to remove scrubs and cleansers.
3. Start with the basics.
At a minimum, you should have three basic products as part of your skincare routine:
A cleanser designed for your particular skin type.
A sunscreen moisturizer (SFP) to protect against harmful UV rays.
4. Use a cleanser designed for your skin type.
Using an appropriate cleanser for your skin type can make a big difference in the way your skin looks and feels. Make a habit of cleaning your skin in the morning and at night before going to bed, as well as brushing your teeth.
Avoid harsh, harsh soaps that can strip your skin of its natural oils. Instead, go for mild, dermatologist-tested, sulfate-free cleansers. For drier skin, select products with ingredients that help soften and hydrate the skin, such as aloe vera and chamomile. If your skin is oilier, choose ingredients that leave it feeling fresh, such as orange and grapefruit.
5. Hydrate your skin daily.
A day moisturizer with a broad-spectrum sunscreen is perfect for everyday use. If you feel like you need more moisture, include a serum under your daytime moisturizer.
When shopping for a serum, look for products with hemp seed oil as they are known for their conditioning properties. Hemp is known as a wonderful plant because of the phytonutrients, hydrating and moisturizing properties that it contains.
6. Exfoliate your skin weekly.
Exfoliating your face can reveal healthier, brighter-looking skin in minutes. It is vital to do it at least once a week because it helps to remove dead cells from the surface of the skin.
When we are young, the body automatically changes its skin even in the shower, but as we age, that process is disturbed and slows down. In addition, exfoliation helps remove the barrier that prevents your skincare products from penetrating and providing the benefits they offer. Manual exfoliation leaves skin smoother and healthier-looking.
Look for products that are gentle but have powerful exfoliating ingredients like cranberry, pomegranate, and bamboo seeds. These types of ingredients can help achieve smooth, smooth skin without damaging it.
7. Put on a clay mask.
The use of masks can be very beneficial to combat oily skin. It is not something you should do every day, but once a week it can provide wonderful benefits to your skin.
Bentonite clay is my favorite type of clay because it is known for its absorbent and toning properties. It will remove grease, dirt, and dead skin. This helps prevent clogged pores, which can ultimately prevent breakouts. A good clay mask should also help decrease the appearance of pore size.
8. Drink enough water.
We all know the importance of drinking water for the healthy maintenance of the body, but it is also vital for the health of the skin. When the skin is properly hydrated, it looks smooth and has a radiant glow. Establish a routine in which you install your water station at your workplace, so you don’t forget to drink it.
How to properly wear a mask before going outdoors
Many people ask me this question constantly, given the current times. These are my best tips on wearing masks or covers.
9. Choose the right mask.
Make sure to choose one that is comfortable for you and is made of breathable material. Not all fabrics are created equal, and polyester can sometimes trap sweat, cause irritation, and trigger acne. Look for masks made of cotton because they can help absorb sweat and allow your skin to breathe.
Do not reuse your mask, as this will help stop the spread of germs and bacteria. Wash your masks regularly as this will soothe acne breakouts and breakouts throughout the day.
10. Prepare your skin before putting on the mask
Just as you prepare your body before putting on your clothes by hydrating it, before putting on the mask you should also use a facial moisturizer with hydrating properties.
Look for ingredients like chamomile and aloe vera, which are known for their hydrating and soothing properties. Hydration can help prevent irritation. Try to avoid thick and greasy makeup as it can clog your pores. If you wear makeup, look for makeup based on minerals and ingredients like titanium dioxide, which absorb oil on the skin.
11. Pamper your skin after using a mask.
After a long day of wearing a mask, be sure to pamper your skin with hydrating and sulfate-free products. Sulfates are strong detergents that alter the lipid structure of the upper epidermis and are irritating.
After removing the mask, be sure to wash your face with a mild cleanser with moisturizing cleansing ingredients, which will help remove dirt and oil from your skin. Avoid using hot water as it can irritate and dehydrate your skin. Use lukewarm water as the skin is already sensitive and this will help prevent further irritation. Finish the process by applying a moisturizer with antioxidants and essential oils, which can restore and soothe your skin.
Regardless of the weather conditions, let’s not forget our hair and scalp! These are my best tips to take good care of your hair:
12. Sleep well.
When you are at rest, your body renews itself. A good night’s sleep is required for hair protein synthesis and the release of growth hormones and enzymes that are necessary for overall hair health. Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep a day.
13. Maintain a healthy and balanced diet.
A healthy diet is a key to healthy hair. Protein is essential, as your hair is made up of a tough protein called keratin, which helps strengthen hair, skin, and nails. You should also focus on trace elements such as copper, iron, magnesium, and selenium, as well as vitamins E, D, and C.
These nutrients are important in the production of keratin. Antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables are a great source of vitamins, as are healthy fats. Fish is also a great option because omega-3 fatty acids stimulate hair growth.
14. Choose the right shampoo.
Choose a specific shampoo for your hair type to help strengthen it. Select a mild shampoo and conditioner to help repair your hair to a strong, healthy state.
Choose products that do not contain sulfate and are clinically proven to improve hair strength. Try to avoid chemical-based products, as they can be harmful. Look for gentler ingredients like aloe vera, shea butter, and plant-based microproteins to help soften and strengthen hair.
15. Use conditioner more often.
Even on days when you don’t shampoo, if your hair is wet, apply a little conditioner. This will help retain much-needed moisture. When water evaporates, it, unfortunately, draws moisture from inside the hair shaft, ultimately causing it to dry out and weaken.
Consider a weekly deep conditioning treatment, like this one: 4 tablespoons of coconut oil, 2 tablespoons of heated pure honey, and a mixed small ripe avocado (if your hair is longer, you can add extra coconut oil), and apply to your freshly washed and towel-dried hair. Put on a shower cap and leave it on for about 20 minutes before rinsing off. It’s a great alternative to a store-bought conditioning treatment.
2022 is the perfect time to start a healthy personal care routine. It only takes a few minutes, and the more you do it, the easier it becomes. You will see that after doing this routine for a couple of weeks, your skin and hair will thank you for revealing a healthy glow.
