    You have come across the word UPSC many times. But you don’t know what the full form of UPSC is?

    In this article, I have not only given the full form of the abbreviation UPSC but also explained the detailed information regarding the UPSC exam.

    To become a district magistrate the candidate needs to gain a bachelor’s degree from a renowned University in the country.

    He can gain a bachelor’s degree from any field of graduation of his choice. Students who are getting in the last year of graduation can also apply for the UPSC exam.

    The candidate needs to have the result of the graduation year before the interview process.

    Even science students, medical students, chartered accountants can apply for the IAS exam and become the district magistrate.

    Full form of UPSC

    UPSC is an authorized Central body of India which is responsible to undertake the civil service examination.

    To become a district magistrate you need to apply for the union public service commission exam. When you crack the UPSC CSE exam you become an IAS officer.

    The promotion as an IAS officer leads to the position of District magistrate.

    What is the full form of UPSC- This answer for this constant question is Union Public Services Exam.

    This commission is responsible to recruit the government officials who become the Indian administrative service officers of the country.

    UPSC is not an online exam but a pen-paper type. Many candidates appeared for this examination in a year.

    What is UPSC?

    Become an IAS officer of the country you need to crack the civil service examination by a commission called UPSC. UPSC is a union public service commission.

    There are a total of three stages that together make UPSC exams – prelims, mains, and the interview.

    Eligibility criteria

    To apply for the UPSC you need to possess some criteria.

    Age criteria

    • To apply for UPSC you need to be between 21 to 32 years.
    • This is limit exceeds by 3 years for OBC candidates
    • Also, this age limit exceeds by 5 years for SC/ST candidates

    Educational qualification

    To apply for the UPSC exam you need to be a graduate in the field of your choice. Even the students who are yet to pass the final year of graduation may apply for the examination if they want.

    The candidates who belong to any of the branches like medicines, productivity, technology, and an accountant can apply for the UPSC exam.

    Chartered accountant and ICWA candidates can one applies for the exam. Students who have passed through distance courses can apply for the exam.

    Number of attempts

    • The total number of attempts for the general category students is 6.
    • The total number of attempts for OBC candidates is 9 attempts
    • There is no number of limits for SC/ST candidates

    Total number of vacancies

    The number of vacancies for the UPSC exam is 796 out of which 24 seats are reserved for reserved caste, three are reserved for a blind person, 9 are reserved for a deaf person, 8 for a disabled person, and 4 for multiple disabilities.

    UPSC pattern

    UPSC exams taken into three different stages as listed below

    • Preliminary exam
    • Mains exam
    • Interview process

    Preliminary exam

    This is the first step for the UPSC exam. The pattern of the paper is of the objective type. If the answer is not correct you will lose 0.33 marks. The exam is taken into two parts- Paper 1 and Paper 2.

    Paper 1

    It consists of various questions related to history, geography, and socioeconomic development. It also consists of current affairs.

    Paper 2  

    It consists of English speaking and communication skills. It also tests the numeric and mental ability of the candidate.

    Mains exam

    The main exam is not objective type. You have to write a descriptive answer for the questions asked.

    There are 9 papers – out of which 4 are General Study’s papers, one essay writing, and 2 optional subjects. The general studies include – History, Geography, Politics, Science, and Ethics.

    All the papers are 250 marks. Only the optional subjects are 300 marks. The duration of all the 9 papers is of 3 hours and a total of 1750 marks.

    Interview Process

    This is a face-to-face question-and-answer test.  Some judges ask different questions and test you based on different parameters.

    Some are situational questions where judges check how you will react in different situations.

    There are questions related to currents. Some questions are asked on the optional subjects that you have chosen for the UPSC exam.

    Who is a DM?

    ADM plays a very vital role in the administration of the whole district. A candidate after becoming an IAS officer with promotions becomes a district magistrate of a district.

    Salary of UPSC qualified officials

    The starting salary for the IAS official is Rs 56, 100/- per month. The salary increases as you are promoted.

    The maximum salary you can get after the qualifying UPSC exam is Rs.2, 50,000/- per month. This is a salary given to a Cabinet Secretary.

    The salary is exclusive of House Rent Allowance, Travelling Allowance, and Dearness Allowance.
