Canada ranks very high on the list of countries which are considered most sought after to immigrate and permanently settle down. There are multiple pathways to move to Canada with different requirements. Furthermore, there is one common link to all these streams and that is the CRS calculator. The CRS calculator or the Comprehensive Ranking System tool is a points-based system that is utilized to determine the score of an applicant and rank him/her in the Express Entry pool. The applicant is awarded points as per their answers to the questions asked in the CRS. Then this score is used to create a merit of all the applicants for the immigration process. The applicant who scores the highest has the maximum chance of moving to Canada.

An applicant aiming for Canada Immigration through the Express Entry program goes through the following stages:

1st STAGE: Eligibility assessment to apply under the Express Entry program.

2nd STAGE: The eligible candidate creates an Express Entry profile thereby entering the Express Entry pool.

3rd STAGE: Applicants in the Express Entry pool are now ranked by the IRCC using the CRS calculator or the Comprehensive Ranking Tool. The CRS tool or the CRS calculator is a part of CRS system.

4th STAGE: The applicants must be awarded the minimum score by the CRS calculator to qualify for the ITA (Invitation to Apply) for Canada PR (Permanent Residence) by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

5th STAGE: Once the applicant receives the ITA from the IRCC, they must apply for Canada PR within 60 days.

    CRUX OF THE CRS CALCULATOR

    1. Who needs a CRS calculator?
    2. Factors determining the CRS score.
    3. Who needs a CRS calculator?

The primary function of a CRS calculator is to assess the applicant’s dependability through his/her work experience, academic and language abilities, etc. If you are eligible for an Express Entry program, the CRS calculator is an indispensable tool to:

    1. Check the score of the Express Entry profile: Assess what your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score would be if you create your Express Entry profile. The CRS calculator must award you the minimum CRS points that are required in the rounds of invitation. In case your CRS score is lower than the minimum CRS points required in the upcoming rounds of invitation, you may improve the score and enter the pool in the next rounds of invitation. It is important to be very well aware of the factors which are counted for CRS because only the can the applicants realize their weak points and then work towards scoring high. There is tough competition in immigrating to Canada. Hence, the applicants are advised to work upon their weak areas and not just clear the minimum hurdle but try to score the maximum score possible. You must be mindful that the Express Entry profile is only valid for 12 months.
    2. Reassess the CRS score in an updated profile: If you have updated your Express Entry profile by the time you receive the Invitation to Apply by the IRCC, you must use the CRS calculator to reassess your score.
    3. FACTORS DETERMINING THE CRS SCORE.

The CRS calculator awards point to applicants under four major components.

    1. Core or Human Capital Factors,
    2. Spouse or Common-law partner factors,
    3. Skill Transferability factors and,
    4.  Additional factors such as PN nomination, siblings living in Canada, etc.

    1. Skill Transferability factors.

It should be noted that factors such as

    1. high language proficiency,
    2. a post-secondary degree,
    3. Canadian work experience,
    4. Foreign work experience and,
    5. certifications in the case of applicants with trade occupations,

are awarded extra points by the CRS calculator. The maximum points that are awarded under this category are 100. The applicants can perform better in the above mentioned factors and hence increase their score in the CRS calculator, thus enhancing their chances to immigrate to Canada. These factors are comparatively the low-hanging fruits of the Canada immigration process. With some amount of efforts in the right direction, the candidates can improve their language skills, reading, writing, speaking and listening. Along with this, the applicants can further increase their score by gaining experience in the occupation they are applying for. Trade certifications are the documents which speak volumes about a candidate’s skills and therefore is one of the factor of CRS calculator. The applicants should make the most of it and earn some trade certifications.

    1. Additional Factors.

The CRS calculator reserves extra points for eligible applicants if they

    1. have a sibling in Canada who is a Canadian citizen or has a PR: 15 points
    2. possess French language skills: 50 points
    3. post-secondary education from Canada: 30 points
    4. an arranged employment: 200 points
    5. nomination by a Canadian province: 600 points.

Thus, according to the CRS calculator,

Core/human capital + Spouse or common-law partner factors + Skill Transferability factors + Additional points = 1,200 points.

Importance of Canada Immigration Consultants in India.

The CRS calculator or the Comprehensive Ranking System tool is just one of the various technicalities that are a part of the Immigration process. While this article tries its best to make the CRS calculator comprehensive and easy, however, it only covers a fraction of a process that is rather intimidating and cumbersome to a layman. The major role of Canada Immigration Consultants in India is to ensure that their clients don’t have to deal with this complicated process without proper guidelines. Although it is not mandatory to hire a Canada immigration consultant to settle in Canada, it is highly recommended. The advice and guidance of an immigration consultant reduces the complexity of the immigration process and allows the applicant to both understand the process and enjoy it.

Why do I need Immigration consultants?

Even though you can immigrate without one, the services of a Canada immigration consultant in India are indispensable. An authorized immigrant consultant:

    1. Helps you pick the right immigration program: The Canadian government offers various immigration programs and it is a daunting task to pick the right one. The authorized Canada Immigration consultants in India are well aware of all the minute clauses and terms and conditions. This makes them highly proficient for assisting their clients to pick the program they are most likely to get accepted in. They use their expert knowledge and experience to tell the applicants the best program. These applicants can be a skilled worker looking for better job opportunities, a student trying to get into a good college or an entrepreneur looking for best business avenues in Canada. There is something that the consultants can offer to everyone.
    2. Save your time: The immigration process involves intensive research and can be extremely time consuming for a common man. The Canada immigration consultants in India help you bypass the research and paperwork thus saving your time and effort. Moreover, the consultants will also save the applicants from falling into the trap of fake information and further complications related to that.
    3. Prevent errors: an applicant might commit technical errors that might cost them their immigration. Canada immigration consultants in India ensure there are no errors in your documents and no finer details are overlooked. They ensure that the process is seamless and has no chances of rejection.

Whom should I hire as my immigration representative?

Canada Immigration consultants in India can be:

    • Paid representatives or
    • Unpaid representatives.

If you hire a paid Canada immigration consultant in India, you must ensure:

    1. she/he is member in good standing of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants, or
    2. Your Canada immigration consultant in India must be one of the Notaries who have the membership of the Chambre des notaries du Quebec, in good standing or,
    3. He/she is a paralegal or a lawyer who is a member of a Canadian Provincial or territorial law society, in good standing.

Moreover, if the hired Canada immigration consultant in India is paid but unauthorized then the ICCR would reject their immigration application. One may refer to https://www.college-ic.ca/protecting-the-public/find-an-immigration-consultant to ensure that the hired Canada immigration consultant in India is authorized and active.
