    What are electrical connectors?

Electrical connectors significantly reduce the time, effort, and human energy required to manufacture, assemble and install electrical appliances, their components and cabling.

    Ingredients

Most connectors have two main parts – the housing and the connection terminals:

    Housing

A housing is a construction or housing used with internal terminals that ensures the strength of the connection and protects the electrical contacts from short circuits and environmental hazards. The connection sleeve is usually made of welded plastic, but other insulating materials such as ceramics are also used.

    Terminals

Terminals are connection pins that provide electrical wiring to secure a connection. It almost always consists of metal, but some of them use other conductive materials (carbon, silicon, etc.).

    Properties

For some applications, a power connection with various features may be required or required:

    Key connectors

They are designed to connect only when they are in the correct orientation. This prevents accidental damage to the pins and prevents users from inserting them into defective sockets.

    Locked connectors

The locking mechanism ensures that the connectors hold in place, preventing accidental disconnection or movement if the connector is broken or shaken.

    Hermetically sealed connectors

Some applications require an electrical connection that can be immersed in water. These connectors are designed to work perfectly underwater and withstand pressure to a certain depth.

    Weatherproof connectors

Although usually not immersion resistant, these connectors provide protection for electrical connections against water damage due to splashes or occasional moisture.

    Moisture / oil resistant connectors

It is designed to protect electrical connections from damage caused by oil or moisture.

    EMI or RFI filtering

Additional features built into the top of the enclosure protect the connectors from electromagnetic interference (EMI) or radio frequency interference (RFI), which can affect circuits that transmit electrical signals.

    ESD shielded connectors

Electrostatic discharge can damage cables and components. ESD shielded connectors provide extra protection against this.

    Details

In order to select the right electrical connections to perform the job and reduce the risks, there are several factors to consider depending on the application, the type of connection. And the power used. It can be divided into two classifications:

    Performance parameters

The performance parameters must be selected based on the conditions under which the electrical connection will operate:

    Meantime

This assessment describes the rate of electric current (current) of the connection designed to meet. It is measured in amperes (A or amperes). The rated connection current is usually in the range of 1A to 50A, although small and large are available for special applications. Tension
The rated voltage describes the magnitude and type of voltage designed for transmission. It is measured in volts (V) for voltage and alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC). Typical ratings may be 50 V, 125 V, 250 V and 600 V, but others apply.

    Operating temperature

The operating temperature range describes the range, recommended temperature, and minimum / maximum safe operating temperature for the electrical connector.

    Physical parameters

Physical parameters must choose carefully because they describe how the electrical connection design, the connection it will use, and much more:

    Contact Pitch

This is the distance between the centers of adjacent pins and the connection terminals. It is usually measured in millimeters (mm). Larger contact spacing means fewer connections or pins per surface, which reduces arcing and thus interference. However, this increases the overall size of the connection.

    Number of contacts

In addition to the type of contact point, the number of contacts as individual conductive elements present in the electrical connectors also differs.

    Material

While connector covers are usually made of plastic, the materials used for connectors are usually a combination of metal and plastic for insulation, although almost any conductive material can be used. Material properties affect performance such as conductivity, strength, strength. And shape. Some common uses include:

    Copper

The zinc content can vary from 5-40%; the cheapest metal to buy by weight; buccal; kusgan; high conductivity, used in KK terminals.

    Bronze phosphorus

High conductivity and fatigue resistance; flexible and elastic, used in electrical contact springs.

    Beryllium copper

The best alloy for spring terminals; cheaper than phosphor bronze, which use for high performance applications.

    High copper alloy

Highly modified copper; good electrical and thermal properties; retains its shape at high temperatures, often used in automotive applications. Types of electrical connections. There  several types of individual electrical connections that can divide into level, function, and termination type:

    Connector level

Each of the connection types can divide into one or more of these five categories, called connection levels:

    Wire-board or subassembly-subassembly

    Box-to-box or input / output

    IC chip or chip-to-packet

    IC package or package-to-board

    PC board to board

    Connector function

Although there are many application-specific connectors, most of them can be classified by connection method:

    Terminal blocks

In these connectors, several wires  individually connected to the endpoint and connected to the housing. There are many sizes, but the lack of circuit protection makes them more difficult compared to others. Connections include printed circuit board (PCB) terminals, plug-in terminal blocks, multiple terminal blocks (MTC), and barrier strips. It  use in printed circuit boards and various electrical devices.

    Bining Post

It connects bare wires to poles and secures them with screws or clamps. The other end can connect terminals, pins or plugs. Many messages can connect bananas, pin connectors and air terminals. Used for various audio and electronic test equipment.

    Plug and socket

A female socket with one or more pins connects to a socket or plug. This provides convenience and allows tool-free connection. A pinout diagram can help with multi-pin connectors. Connection types include USB, network cable, HDMI, DVI, RCA, SCSI, board mount, audio, coaxial, cable, and more.

    Stand and panel

These connectors often used to continuously connect devices with removable electronic components. Especially when space and connection reliability important factors. Connection types include stand to panel, cable to cable, and cable to panel. It is widely use in printers, modems, home stereo systems, and telecommunications.

    Blade

Blade connectors connect individual conductors with blade receivers with flat conductive blades. Blades connectors sometimes have difficulty connecting to the connecting wires of some electronic devices, such as speakers or thermostats. It is typically use for cable connections and is suitable for almost any application that requires a point-to-point connection.

    Ring and spade

Like blade connectors, they connect by wire, except that the connection  make by inserting between a threaded rod and a screw or bolt. The shape allows easy connection when the lock is partially open. It usually use for cable connections. And is also suitable for any application that requires a point-to-point connection. Connector
Other connections can classify according to the method used to terminate or connect the wire to the connection:

    Insulation transfer

Insulation Displacement Connectors (IDC)  connect to an insulated cable. Or wire without the need for prior stripping. A sharp blade like a series of connecting blades cut into the insulation when a wire or cable inserted. While eliminating the stripping process shortens time, especially for manufacturers, the blades can damage the wire. This reduces the current management capacity. In addition, non-production IDC tools are more expensive and less efficient than shrink tools.

    Precipitation

Crimping creates a separate connection between connectors and wires. The stripped wire insert into a metal cylinder or terminal and a crimping tool  use to press the part through the wire. It often use to make finished wire for ring, blade, and blade connectors. They preferred for their safety, ease of use, economy, and reproduction of post-production.

    Barrel joints

Barrel joints shrink into cylindrical sections, usually in oval shapes, and widely use in consumer electronics.
Open cylinder joints shrink in the pre-molded part, resulting in a U or V shape. These joints are easier to automate and are often more robust than barrel-pressed joints

    Soldering

Soldering involves melting the filler metal (solder) into an electrical connection to form a molten connection between conductors or terminals. It provides a very smooth and firm surface. When well done, with solder that matches the metals to join. These connections last longer and are more involved than shrinking. For printed circuit boards, electrical connections make by soldering.

    Three types of connections

Connector, connector assembly, and terminal applications
    1. Connectors mainly use in the connection between These the basic element of the electrical connection in the circuit system. The main areas of application of connectors the automotive industry, communications, computers and peripherals, industry, the military.  And the aerospace industry. As the field of application expands and expands. It can apply in almost every industry.
