Screen printing, or silk screening, is an old process for printing on almost any material. The original silk used for a curtain today replace with a nylon material that has a very, very tight mesh. It still has the feel and looks of silk.

The process involves three basic steps
One is to prepare your artwork, image, or text and turn it into a piece of film. This image is evident with the artwork or text being black. The second is to place this film on top of your screen and expose it to a light source for a predetermined time. Third, you place your screen over the printable material and draw ink on it with a squeegee.
Suppose we want to print the letter “ABC”. We’ll start by making a film that will have three characters, probably right in the center. Three characters in this part of the film will be black and the rest will be transparent. The piece of this film flatten on the screen and a piece of glass plac on top of it to prevent everything from moving. When we release it the clear areas of the film will harden the emulsion and make it stand out on the screen.
After exposure, the screen wash with running water, and the parts of the emulsion that have not been exposed to light will wash. In this context, we will have the letter “ABC” on our screen where the ink will go and print whatever is under it because the unpublished emulsion will wash away.
If we want to print each character in a different color, say red, white, and blue
We will need a separate screen for each of the three characters, but we must have each character in the correct position so that they are not printed on top of each other or out of position. The easiest way to do this with our “ABC” view is to place three separate screens and then block “B” and “C” with paper or a tape and expose only “A”.
We’ll call it our red screen. We will block “A” and “C” from our next screen and call it our white screen. Now we will block “A” and “B” and call it our blue screen. Now we have three separate screens, each in a separate frame and each with part of our “ABC” image. We could also make three separate pieces of film, each with just one character, but it takes extra materials.
When we print this “ABC” image we will print the “A” screen, then the “B” screen, and finally the “C” screen will bring us our three color images. Care should take to register your frame in the exact same place each time so that all text and images on the screen appear in the correct spots of the finished product.
The screen is spread over the material you want to print. Everything must be kept in a safe place so that the frame or material does not move at all
The ink color you want to use appl to the screen above the image. If we print “A”, that screen place on top of the element, and red ink place on the screen. We will then take a low. Drag the red ink over the letter “A” and then back up again to go over it a second time. It will print the letter “A” in red ink on whatever you are printing, a T-shirt, poster, or whatever. Repeat this process with the other two letters and the ink color to finish the product.
