Fairy meadows are located at the base camp of Nanga Parbat which is the second-highest mountain in Pakistan and about 8125 meters in height. Visitors from the world come to Pakistan to see this one of the tallest mountains but as compared to other areas, the number of visitors is less here because of a long journey especially the hiking trek to reach there. Most of the visitors here are foreigners and the ones who wish to do hiking on the giant mountain. They are near the base camp on Nanga Parbat but ordinary trekkers can also reach there, after this it is difficult for them to go up to the mountain. Only professional hikers can do this.

Best time to visit fairy meadows

As the fairy meadows are located at high altitude, the temperature is very low there. Due to heavy snowfall, are vast glaciers that melt in the summer season and make big streams which at the end falls into the Indus River. The best time to visit this place is the summer season, from April to September. After this, it might be to reach the place. Even in the summer season, the weather here is a bit colder.

A guide to reaching fairy meadows

Reaching fairy meadows is somehow tough because the complete journey is in steps.

  • Gilgit

Firstly you have to reach Gilgit Baltistan situated in north Pakistan. It is your choice how you reach there, you can move by air or by road to the capital of Baltistan province. There are proper roads to the city but the way is dangerous for weak hearted people. Local conveyance is also available from Islamabad to go to Gilgit.

  • Raikot bridge

Raikot bridge is the id way place to fairy meadows. It is about 80 km from Gilgit and takes about one hour to reach there. Private cars are available for rent to go there. You can hire from Gilgit but rent is somehow high at this place.

  • Trailhead

From Raikot bridge, jeeps are available on rent to move forward. These 4 wheel jeeps with experienced drivers can take you ahead to Trailhead. There are no proper roads instead of a bumpy zig-zag way of about one and a half hours. You will reach a village where the trailhead begins. You can hire the jeep privately and commit with the driver to pick you again from this place. But it becomes economical when you share the jeep with some other locals.

  • Fairy meadows

Next, to reach your final destination, you have to move by yourself. There is no conveyance that goes from this place. Many visitors which cannot complete the long trek, come back midway. Trek goes high and high for about 2 hours and it becomes steep. After a half-hour walk on the steep trek, you have finally reached the destination, the beautiful fairy meadows.

After a long journey to reach fairy meadows, the good news is that you can find a resort here to stay. You can also do camping at the place to enjoy a cup of coffee in the chill weather.
